The Beat Doctor
By Lizelle Jackson | October 13, 2008
There is nothing that I could say that would do justice to Depth’s rework of Antonio Carlos Jobim’s “Aguas De Marcos”. As an avid fan of Bossa Nova, this song hit the spot. Depth has said his music is about “living life, love, and longing”, and citing “folk, pre-fusion spiritual jazz, African high life, and hip-hop”, as inspirations. So it is no wonder he turned to Bossa Nova for inspiration. I’m just left wondering how a medical student has managed to find the time to make such amazing beats, with what I can only imagine as a grueling study schedule. On top of that, he also has a much more dark and moody side project named, Yersinia Blaque, which he aptly calls “the ugly girlfriend of Depth”. Check out the track and let me know what you think! Oh, and big ups to Andrew at Vibes and Stuff for turning me on to Depth and stay tuned for some more goodies from Vibes coming soon….
