The Dig
By Lizelle Jackson | March 15, 2008

So every once in awile you come across a band that sounds like they would like nothing better than to be back in that garage they grew up practicing in, and The Dig is that band. Ok, I know that sounds bad, but this is not to say that their sound is juevenile, rather I find it to be a reflection of what I percieve to be their youth like craving to simply be playing music whenever possible. There is just something in their music that echoes the innocence of having the opportunity to do something you are truly passionate about. Actually, what suprised me the most about The Dig was their emphasis on themselves as a group while writing to me, “WE’re from New York, WE’d love for you to post our tunes”. I suppose this is the kind of comraderie that comes of having played together throughout their childhood, but it is still immensely refreshing to see a group seemingly unscathed by the rigors of trying to become an established band.

I can openly admit that I really don’t know very much about rock so it wouldn’t be fair to sit here and try and compare thes guys to a bunch of other groups. In fact I find that a comparison would be unfair, because I like what THEY are doing, no matter where they have drawn their influences from. Really, the only difficulty I am having is trying to figure out which songs to post, so make sure you head over to their myspace to check out the rest. Oh, and they’ve got quite a few shows lined up, you can find them at Pianos in the L.E.S. (Lower East Side for those that don’t know) every Wednesday in May and every Thursday in July.
