Joao Gilberto at Carnegie Hall

By admin | June 23, 2008

I have been a huge fan of Bossa Nova for as long as I can remember, and last night I got to see Joao Gilberto, the father of Bossa Nova at Carnegie Hall celebrating. For those of you not familiar with Bossa Nova, I’m sure you have heard the song “Girl From Impanema” somewhere. Unfortunately it might have been a horribly bad cover version considering that song seems to be the ipotome of elevator music. None the less, it was amazing to watch the 77 year old Jao, alone on stage with his guitar, play to a packed house. I doubt I will ever have another concert moment as priceless as getting to hear him perform what is probably my all-time favorite song, “Corcovado”.
